Course objectives:
The lecture aims to familiarize students with the basics of the Roman metrics. The main emphasis is put on the most widespread meters of the Latin epic poetry of the Golden Age. During the course, students will undergo not only an appropriate theoretical preparation, but they will also be able to apply their knowledge functionally, namely in the form of a proper recitation of ancient poems. The content of seminars involves reading of selected poems, or more precisely passages from the works of Latin poets (Ovid, Virgil, Catullus) and versological analysis of their works.
Requirements on student
An active participation in the seminars and an intensive self-study is expected. At the exam, students will demonstrate their knowledge of the Latin meters during the reading and interpretation of a selected passage from the works of the discussed authors.
