Course objectives:

The aim is to acquire basic knowledge in the areas of general, inorganic and organic chemistry, to adopt fundamentals of terminology and practical calculations of chemical balances.

Requirements on student

Evaluation of the subject as well as the exam grading is made according to the articles No 31 - 33 in the Regulations on Study and Examinations University of Ostrava

Content
|
Content
The subject represents a brief overview of general, inorganic and organic chemistry. Practical calculation exercise is focused on practice of terminology, on conversion of chemical equations, calculations of solution concentration and electrolyte pH.
Lectures (3 hrs (80 st.))
Week/Content of individual teaching units
1. Basic terms in chemistry, atom and molecule composition. System of elements.
2. Chemical bond, theory of chemical bond. Chemical compounds. States of matter, phase equilibira.
3. Energy of chemical reactions, thermochemistry, chemical equilibria, reaction kinetics, poorly soluble compounds, complexes.
4. Dispersion systems, compounds, compound division, chemically pure substances.
5. Electrolytes. Theory of acids and alkalis, protolyte reactions, salt hydrolysis, buffers.
6. Redox processes, electrode potentials, cells (elements).
7. - 8. Elements S, P, D, F - basic overview and characteristics.
9. Inorganic compounds significant in biological systems.
10. Structure of organic molecules, basic types of reactions in organic chemistry.
11. Hydrocarbons and simple derivatives of organic compounds.
12. Oxygenated derivatives of organic compounds - alcohols, phenols, ethers, aldehydes and ketones.
13. Organic acids and their derivatives.
14. Toxicity of elements and compounds. Toxic oxygen forms. Antioxidants.
15. Polymers of heterocyclic compounds.

4. Calculations: formulation of concentrations.
5. Calculations: preparation of solutions.

7. pH calculations of strong, weak acids and alkalis. Test.
8. Conversion of redox equations.
9. Inorganic compounds and their preparation - calculations.
10. Terminology of organic compounds.
11. Terminology in organic chemistry II.
12. Reactions of oxygenated derivatives .
13. Reactions of organic acids and their derivatives.
14. Regulations on work with poisons and toxic elements.
15. Test.
