Course objectives:
Orthopaedic prosthetics is a multidisciplinary medical and engineering branch dealing with indication and manufacturing of orthopaedic devices for disabled people. It is connected to clinical branches of medicine, especially surgery, orthopaedics, rehabilitation, neurology and other. One part of prosthetics are the social issues too and the aim is the restoration or substitution of the function or form of the affected part of the locomotive system in order to remove the handicap of the person.

1 Technical orthopaedics - orthopaedic prosthetics - basic terminology, division.
2 Orthotics - upper limb orthosis, indications, application principles, technical options.
3 Orthotics - lower limb orthosis, indications, application principles, technical options.
4 Orthotics - trunk orthosis, indications, application principles, technical options.
5 Prosthetics - prosthesis, indications, application principles, technical options.
6 Prosthetics - construction designs, basis for production, economy, application principles.
7 Amputee care - complex approach.
8 Disability and possible solutions, interdisciplinary cooperation.
9 The system of technical orthopaedic care, legislation, orthopaedic prosthetics with regard to disability.
10 Orthopaedic shoes, orthopaedic insoles.
11 Shoes specifics with regard to diabetic foot and children's foot.
12 Wheelchairs and vehicles for immobile patients.
13 Adjuvant treatment.

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course:
The student
- knows theoretical principals for the construction of prosthetic and orthotic devices
- is able to choose an appropriate orthotic and prosthetic device for the particular patient and to teach him to use the device
- knows the application of particular orthotic and prosthetic devices in clinical indication field of traumatology, surgery, orthopaedics and neurology
