Course objectives:
|
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the subject is to introduce students to the procedures for preparation / modification of educational materials for clients with sensory disabilities.
In the theoretical part of the course students will be acquainted with pedagogical approach to clients, methods and forms of education in andragogy, basic principles of education of clients.
They will get acquainted with the types of sensory disabilities they may encounter in common practice, especially with regard to how this disability affects the client's ability to receive information and education.
In the practical part of the course students will try to create new or modify existing educational materials for such clients using commonly available technologies. Students will raise awareness of the problems of people with disabilities, the barriers they have to overcome, but also the possibilities of overcoming some of them. This potential will increase their professional ability and competitiveness in the performance of their work and will help to reduce clichés or bias towards people with disabilities.

Requirements on student
|
The course is supported by an e-learning course in LMS Moodle. Students assign tasks continuously in accordance with the course schedule. Prerequisites and co-requisites Assesment in practical exercises and discussions and passing the didactic test.

Content
|
Lectures:
1. Methods and forms of adult education, principles of adult education
2. A list of sensory disabilities that students may encounter in their clients / patients (hearing, hearing).
3-4. Impact of sensory impairments on client / patient communication capability, film demonstration.
5. A sample of the materials provided to patients / clients and their evaluation.
6. Overview of compensatory aids that clients / patients with sensory disabilities can use to communicate - visual impairment.
7. Recommended rules for communicating with a patient / visually impaired client.
8. Recommended method for editing text materials for people with visual impairment I., especially special text editing.
9. Recommended methodology for editing text materials for people with visual impairment II., Utilization of other technologies (audio recording, graphics programs).
10. An overview of the compensatory aids that patients / clients with sensory disabilities can use to communicate - hearing impairment.
11. Recommended rules for communicating with a patient / client with hearing impairment.
12. Recommended methodology for editing text materials for people with hearing impairment.
13-14. Multimedia use - video recording and processing.
Exercises:
1.-2. Analysis of already existing educational materials from the field of health care with regard to accessibility and comprehensibility for the client / patient with sensory disability.
3-7. Editing selected material for a visually impaired client / patient, including audio recording.
8.-11. Edit selected material for client / patient with hearing impairment, multimedia capabilities.
12-14. Preparation of a new educational material for a client / patient with sensory impairment - a concrete example depending on the student's field of study.

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
Students know how to prepare or adapt educational materials to the needs of the patient / client in a way that is accessible and comprehensible to them in the education of patients / clients with sensory disabilities. Students are aware of the problems of people with disabilities, the barriers they have to overcome, but also the possibilities of overcoming some of them.
Student knows the specifics of education of people with disabilities, weakness, disadvantage, etc.
The student is oriented in basic educational, interventional and reeducational strategies when working with clients with disabilities, weakness and disadvantage.
The student is oriented in the possibilities of special pedagogical support in communication, care and education, etc. |
Skills - skills resulting from the course: |
Students are able to prepare or adapt teaching materials to the needs of the patient / client in a way that is accessible and comprehensible to them as part of their training in the training of patients / clients with sensory disabilities.
The student is able to educate a client / patient with disabilities, weakness, disadvantage, etc., by being able to modify the information provided by the student.
The student can use commonly available office applications and standard features of mobile devices using multimedia to modify educational materials. |
