Course objectives:
The goal of the course is to teach students the fundamentals of the scientific method and the logic of scientific thought. Students will have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the individual phases of scientific research, from the formulation of a scientific problem to the selection of the appropriate method of data collection. After taking this course, the students should be able to create their own theoretically and methodologically sound research design. This course is followed by the course Propedeutika 3 which will give the students the opportunity to acquaint themselves with further methods of data collection and also with methods of data analysis and interpretation.

Requirements on student
Students are required to attend a minimum of four thematic blocks and final colloquium. The purpose of the colloquium will be demonstrations of acquired knowledge and skills from this course and other thematically related courses (KSG/TEMEP, KSG/GEOTE, KSG/NPKUG, KSG/NPPOG) in the form of research report. The report must be submited a minimum of 5 working days before the final colloquium to 14:00 on monika.sumberova@osu.cz (in the subject line write PROP2 - you will receive a confirmation mail).
All the teachers teaching this course will be present at the colloquium plus selected teachers from additional theoretically oriented courses in the curriculum Political and cultural geography of the first year.
Evaluation criteria:
- Corresponding theoretical grounding of the research
- Suitable formulation of research question/s
- Corresponding hypothesis
- Adequate and well-reasoned sampling
- Selection of suitable methods for collecting and interpreting data
- Corresponding conclusions
Part of the evaluation will be the presentation of the research report - we expect comprehensible and structured speech.
