Course objectives:
|
The aim of lectures and seminars is to make students acquainted with basic creative streams, personalities and their artefacts of the 2st half of 19th century. From the methodological point of view the lectures and seminars reflect the new conception of the interpretation of the development of 19th century Russian literature with regard to the changes in spiritual, cultural, social and political life in Russia.
Subject contents: the elaboration and presentation of papers, supplementary papers and the following discussion on the given issues. In the process of the papers' preparation the emphasis is placed on the complex analysis both of the intellectual and morphological side of texts, on use of primary and secondary literature and on the ability to form one's own critical opinions. At the same time the check of reading of original Russian texts according the compulsory reading list takes place. The subject is taught in Russian.

Requirements on student
|
The examination is conducted in Russian. The student shows orientation in the history of 19th century Russian literature. At the exam the student hands in his/her reading list which is subject to the discussion.

Content
|
1. The school of Naturalism and its aesthetics.
2. Russian literary aesthetics and criticism in the 2nd half of 19th century (Chernyshevsky, Dobrolyubov, Pisarev).
3. The metamorphoses of Russian realist prose:
a) Turgenev's lyricised prose.
b) Goncharov's "objective realism".
c) The philosophical-psychological conception of Dostoyevsky's prose.
d) Tolstoy's novel epopee as an attempt to organic viewing of the world.
e) Leskov's narrative experiment.
f) The elements of a fantastic character in the works of Saltykov-Shchedrin.
4. The Russian poetry of 2nd half of 19th century and its movement from social poetry towards impresionist and philosophical poetry (Nekrasov, Fet, Tyutchev, Nadson).
5. The violation of traditional prosaic and dramatic structure in Chekhov's prose and drama its in-depth meaning.
6. The naturalism in Russian literature.
7. The accession of Russian literary modernism (new poetic movements, manifests, intellectual roots of Russian symbolism and decadence).
8. General revision.

- znalosti o chronologickém vývoji ruské literatury, literárních směrech a tvůrčích osobnostech druhé poloviny 19. století (viz obsah předmětu). |

- acquiring the ability to correctly understand, interpret and put the given literary movements into broader European literary and historical context.

- dovednost správně pochopit dané literární směry a konkrétní literární díla, - interpretovat a zařadit literární dílo do širšího evropského literárněhistorického kontextu, - samostatně pracovat s primární a sekundární literaturou, uměleckými texty, diskutovat a kriticky myslet. |
