Course objectives:
The objective of the course is to obtain basic declarative and contextual knowledge, particularly in these specific areas: the concept of tolerance and intolerance, xenophobia and racism, minority culture in the Czech Republic, a brief history of the Roma to the present, the Roma and the World War 2, the Roma culture, folklore, interpretative art styles, Roma language and communication, differences of language, its peculiarities, concepts, education of Roma children. To search and find the starting point of cohabitation, the issue of education, contemporary Roma personalities of scientific, cultural and political life. Judaism and anti-Semitism. A brief overview of world religions.



Requirements on student
Seminary essay, the credit knowledge test.

The course can be completed during study abroad under the following conditions:
1. Personal consultation with the teacher before leaving for abroad study.
2. During the semester to submit (by e-mail) 2 essays by previous agreement with the teacher (in the range of 4 standard pages).


Content
1. Multiculturalism and interculturalism - basic concepts (race, nation, national minority, xenophobia, racism).
2. Identity, aculturation, integration, national minorities in the Czech Republic.
3. A brief survey of history of Eomanies until the present days, the Romanies and the second world war.
4. Romany culture and folklore, styles of performance, Romany language and communication, differences of the language, its oddities, education of Romany child.
5. Searches and foundings of ways of life tohgether, problems of scholarship, current Romany personalities of scientific, cultural and political life.
6. Judaism - roots of antisemitism and antisionism, current social and political situation of the Jewish community and the state of Israel.
7. Evolution of Judaism - form idolatry to monotheism, concept of God, Jewish mysthic.
8. Jewish tradition and festivals.
9. Islam - history of the religion, a brief outline of political and social situation in Islamic coutries, tradition and festivals of Islam.
10. A brief survey of other world´s religions.

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course:
Students acquires:
- an overview of minority issues in the Czech Republic
- the basic knowledge of the history and culture of ethnic minorities in the Czech Republic
- a basic awareness of otherness, leading to mutual respect
