Course objectives:
The lecture offers an outline of the genres of the Latin medieval literature after the year 1000 AD and it introduces the literary production of the period of the so-called humanism of the 12th century and the high middle ages. The lecture will focus on the development of the Latin literature in Czech lands and its employment in the European environment. Seminars will be dedicated to reading extracts of chosen works documenting the specifics of individual genres.



Requirements on student
Students are supposed to prepare intensively at home, to participate regularly and in an active manner on the seminars and also to write a paper in the length of four pages (elaborating a short biography of a chosen author and a commented translation of an extract from his work).

Learning outcomes

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course:
Students are familiar with the Latin literary production after the year 1000 AD, they know the characteristic attributes of individual literary genres, they are capable of employing the development of the Latin literature in Czech lands into the European environment and they are able to read, translate and interpret extracts of chosen works of a particular period.
